Driving a Culture of Safety: How First Bus Steered Employees Down the Right Road

How we researched the problem, mapped out an engaging induction experience then created a video to sell the story in an engaging way

Planning Video Animation Design

First Bus aimed to refresh all employees on core health and safety while onboarding new starters. This crucial training had to be fun, engaging and authentic.

We created a 20-minute interactive video to make the content memorable. For authenticity, we filmed diverse teams in different locations with unscripted answers. Fast pacing, bold graphics, and location shots kept it lively. To add humor, narrators shared funny facts and stories. Throughout, we collaborated closely with First Bus’s Health and Safety lead to ensure relevance.

The video provided managers and colleagues an entertaining yet impactful understanding of key health and safety protocols. Engagement was high, meaning a lot more staff were prepared for their first day.

This enabled First Bus to consistently communicate vital safety arrangements across the business from Aberdeen to Cornwall. By taking the wheel on training, First Bus steered all employees down the right road to refresher knowledge and an enhanced culture of safety.

Capturing the culture

The people and camaraderie of First Bus were at the heart of everything that was good. We wanted to weave these real life heroes throughout the video

Story telling

We wanted to get key health and safety information included by telling real stories to build the interest of the user.

Graphic styles we used to illustrate key points

As always, we kicked off this project with a discovery session. These exploratory sessions are vital in uncovering the root cause of challenges and exploring potential solutions.  They help us map out the objectives, drivers, blockers, audiences and existing systems, so we can design a solution that helps clients achieve their goals.

The planning

We worked with the team to map out a coherent strategy

Once we understood the proposition we were meticulous in our preparation. We mapped out each scene and sketched peoples scripts to ensure it all ran smoothly on the day

The recce

As always we need to get hands on to understand the challenge we’re facing. Here is our creative director Jamie enjoying the view in a freezing bus depot

The shoot

The shoot is always fun. We loved meeting the First Bus people who were smart, well informed and very funny. In case anyone was wondering it’s cold in a bus depot.

The team at Electric Circus worked with us to plan out our essential health and safety induction training. The final result got the tone right for our people first organisation and has equipped new starters with everything they need to know when they come in that first morning…
