Gamified learning experience and a global leaderboard

UX Design Gamification Cornerstone

Challenge

DHL wanted to make their mandatory employee learning more engaging and effective. Traditional LMS approaches struggled to motivate participation. Positively change behaviour and apply practical Health and safety knowledge. They needed a unified hub to manage game-based learning that leveraged psychological techniques to inspire employees to complete training.

Solution

We integrated a gamified learning platform with DHL’s Cornerstone LMS. Employees personalise avatars, earn points and badges, and compete on leaderboards—satisfying needs for status, achievement, and recognition. Scenarios and quizzes based on DHL’s content to increase comprehension and retention. Managers access data analytics and tools to track participation. The system harnesses proven motivational techniques like personalisation, goal-setting, and competition to turn required learning from a chore into an engaging experience.

By leveraging the gamification psychology, employees are staying motivated while mastering skills critical to DHL’s operations.

Choose your avatar

We provided users with the functionality to allows them to choose an avatar to personalise their digital profile. We made it completely bespoke so it  represented the DHL people.

Personalised hub

We created a personalised interface to make it easy for users to find content related to their specific compliance task, giving them stronger sense of control of the learning journey.

Global Competition

We promoted friendly competition by creating leaderboards ,allowing users to track their progress and achievements against that of their peers. It was set up so people could filter by department, region and role, which added an extra layer of competition.
